Profile

The Vessel Superintendent plays a crucial role in maintaining and supporting the operations of jack-up barges, with a focus on keeping the vessels in optimal condition. In the organisation, the Vessel Superintendent reports directly to the Rig Manager, ensuring a close connection to daily operations. Collaborating closely with various departments, particularly the Engineering & Asset Integrity Department, the superintendent ensures effective planning and execution of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. This includes coordinating dry-docking, managing spare parts inventory, and ensuring all activities comply with safety and regulatory standards.

The role involves cooperating with onboard supervisors, external contractors, and other key departments, contributing to budget preparations, and monitoring performance. With a strong background in marine engineering, the Vessel Superintendent brings technical expertise, organizational skills, and a hands-on approach to both onshore and offshore environments.

Your position within the organisation:

  • Reports directly to the Rig Manager
  • Works closely together with the Maintenance Supervisor on board
  • Works together with the Project Engineer
  • Works together with the Engineering & Asset Integrity Department, Document Control, Procurement Department and QHSE Department
  • Works with third parties contracted for various supporting services

Tasks & Responsibilities

As Vessel Superintendent, you are responsible for ensuring a streamlined operation, maintenance, and compliance of our vessels. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the planning and execution of both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, project mobilisations, modifications, and surveys of assigned units. Overseeing the use of the planned maintenance system, monitoring overdue maintenance, and providing guidance to Maintenance Supervisors onboard. Reporting on vessel conditions and supporting damage claims.
  • Developing a critical spare parts strategy, maintaining up-to-date inventories, and setting up new maintenance tasks for replaced or new equipment and systems.
  • Managing supplier contracts, reviewing their performance, and expediting follow-ups as needed. Collaborating with Rig Manager on budgeting, dry-docking specifications, and cost estimates, while ensuring statutory, class, and trading certificates remain valid.
  • Ensuring compliance with company regulations, as well as environmental, safety, and quality standards, while staying updated on new industry legislation.
  • Ensuring the familiarization of offshore technical personnel.

Your experience, skills, and personal competencies

As Vessel Superintendent, you are part of the Rig Management, which acts as the link between the office and operations. This requires an awareness of the organisation, knowing what to contribute and when, while anticipating the situation. The role demands the following:

  • Qualifications: Hold a minimum qualification as a middle-grade marine engineer, naval architect, or a similar technical level, with demonstrated experience in vessel maintenance and repairs.
  • Technical literacy and reporting: Capable of reading engineering deliverables, understanding technical diagrams, and producing clear, relevant reports. Proficient in the use of a Planned Maintenance System (PMS), preferably STAR-IPS.
  • Professionalism: Having organizational awareness, the Vessel Superintendent understands how the organization functions, including its culture, and effectively plans actions, priorities, and resources to achieve goals. Serves as an ambassador for the Company and related companies, maintaining professionalism internally and in all third-party interactions.
  • Initiative and problem-solving: Proactively gather information to address current and future challenges, solving problems while adhering to regulations. Adjust to changing circumstances, embrace new ideas, and improvise where necessary to reach objectives.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel: Willing and able to travel and work offshore as needed.
  • Communication: Clear and effective communication in English with all stakeholders, ensuring both written and spoken messages are well understood
